Fall

Well, after the start of the school year, the next indicator that we have Fall in full swing is Halloween. Preferably chilly - a coat over your costume chilly; often wild and crazy; always followed by a time of harvest and preparing for winter. For a few weeks we have had pumpkins on every corner and in big bins in the stores. These have been accompanied by winter squash and gourds, multi-colored corn, Halloween costumes and decorations, and decorative Pilgrims, turkeys and Native Indians. My favorite movie this time of year is Hocus Pocus. It is so cute and funny.

I have to laugh everytime I see these clips!

Another sign of Fall is everything to eat and drink is pumpkin and apple related. Cocoa, especially the gourmet versions, are also making their seasonal debut now. It won't be long before the stores are filled with frozen turkeys and spiral-cut hams. Already the winter baking and entertaining items are on sale, so I think we can safely say the season of eating has begun!! I am making a point of NOT indulging too much, but I do like the turkey/stuffing/gravy/veggies program at the end of November. This year will be a challenge to prepare for my daughter, who is observing a gluten free diet just now for some health issues. I told her we'll have to start experimenting with some gluten free stuffing. I'm already gathering some useful information. I'll try to post soon some websites and any recipes I come up with....and of course, I can be found on Pinterest under Donna Day - and I have a lovely white rose as my picture.

The other Fall activity I enjoy is knitting. It used to be that I would begin knitting in the Fall, around September or October, and stop knitting about May, when it really got hot. Now, I knit year-round and I adjust my yarn where I can. I'm finishing a big project for a Christmas gift, but it's been in all cotton, so it's been a real treat to work on during the summer months. I have started a couple pairs of socks for myself, as I always say I will knit some so my feet will be warm and my ankles won't swell (I hate bought socks because they are always too tight around my ankles), but I never do. This time, though, I saw some self-striping yarn and decided I would start a pair of socks, then decided that two pairs of toe-up socks were better than one, so I started a pair of black ones, too. I hope to have time to work on those when I take a little mini-vacation the first of November. I might have more to say once I've had a little break!  ;-)

That's it for me for now. I will leave you with a little spooky video that has some really jumping music! Blessings to you!
